Hey there friends!! I have sure missed y’all! We had a bad storm with tornadoes come through last weekend, Memorial Day, and caused power outages like crazy! We were without power for almost 5 day, 4.5 to be exact. HAHA!! And then the internet has been in and out since the power was restored so every time I tried to go online, I couldn’t get anywhere. But, we are back!!!!!!
I hope that you have been doing well and maintaining your sanity. I know that I have been struggling to do so. You never realize how much you depend on electricity, like the faith you have when flipping a switch the power is there until it is NOT!
We did well the first night. We had batteries for flashlights and radios, yes RADIOS!!! Not satellite. We had candles for lighting so we didn’t use all the batteries up. We read books, colored pictures, tried playing games on the phones until the battery on them dies. We used our vehicles to charge them but that takes a while. The second day, we found a hotel. That was extremely difficult!
Half the hotels in town were without power in this town and the others were full. We could only find one that had room. It was 20 minutes away and was NOT pet-friendly. I was not happy leaving my baby girl at home alone. Luckily we had found a generator for my parents to use so they stayed home, which is across the street from us. They watched over my baby but she was missing me and scared. When we came home the next day, she was stuck to me like glue. The next night we found a room that allowed pets. YAY!!
You know that first day wasn’t bad, I got things done that I normally might not have completed, like folding my laundry and putting away, scrubbing bathrooms, rearranging rooms a bit, and cleaning out the fridge. These things can be done other times but there is always something else to do. I had no excuse this time! But the heat can get you. By the middle of the day, it was 80 degree and I was sweltering. We had doors open and hung outside with the breeze as much as we could. Once we went inside, the heat smacked you in the face like a ton of bricks!
You don’t realize how much you are drained by the heat until you have no relief from it. That was the main reason we went to a hotel. We LOVE air conditioning!
Thank you, God, for the invention of Air Conditioning!
